Attention:

Take Your Horse Training Knowledge to the Next Level with these Special Videos!

Loaded with "insider secrets", my Inner Circle videos contain information about horses and horse training that just is not available anywhere else.

This is the kind of information that can take you from being just an "average" horse trainer to being an "exceptional" horse trainer.

Below is the list of Inner Circle videos. I suggest you order them all. Get every single one because each one has special lessons to teach.

I've written a short paragraph describing each video. However, I think you'll find each tape contains a lot more information than the description implies.

Inner Circle Video 1 (2-2002)

Training Problems and Solutions for a
Very, Very Green 2-Year Old Gelding
Dry and On Cattle

I can’t wait for you to see this video. It consists of three consecutive rides on a two year old gelding that has only been ridden a few times. With a colt this green, my first priority is to keep him from bucking and establish some control.

Riding in a large arena, you'll see how I teach this untrained colt how to stop, turn and lope at a reasonably controlled pace. Since this colt is a little on the "snorty" side, I have to teach him his lessons without setting him off bucking in a panic.

You'll see how a variety of training methods and tact is used to overcome this horse's "broncyness" and get him to concentrate on learning to become a trained horse.

The first two rides are dry work only and the third ride is dry work plus some foundatiion training on cattle.

This video is going to reveal some really big training problems. But, most importantly you are going to see the process of analyzing problems and then implementing solutions. As a matter of fact, I’ll bet many of you have had these exact same problems.

Inner Circle Video 2 (3-2002)

Cutting Lesson

Reined Work Quick Fixes

Body Soreness

I think you will get a lot of good from this months video. It starts out with me giving a cutting lesson to one of my clients, Virginia Sorenson. Virginia is 65 years old. That’s right, I said 65. And she didn’t start cutting until she was 62. Last year Virginia won the High Point Championship saddle in our local cutting horse association. A pretty darn good accomplishment for anyone, let alone a lady in her 60’s. So, I don’t want to hear any of my members whining about how they are too old to learn or they started too late. If you want it bad enough, you’ll find a way.

The second segment of the video shows me doing an evaluation of an older gelding that has come in training to be a working cow horse. I test him out and point out his good attributes and his problems. You’ll see some of the problems greatly improve in just a few minutes.

The third part of this video is probably the most important. You are going see how to check a horse for body soreness. More horses are sore in the body than you would ever imagine. And if your horse is one of them, you will have hell getting him to respond to your training. Pay close attention, this kind of information is hard to come by.

Note: In the video I should have pointed out that the horse needs to be cold when you check him for soreness. If you ride him or warm him up first, the soreness will be more difficult to detect.

Curb Bit Training

Training for Neck Reining

Head Set Training

Taking Correct Leads

This months special video shows a couple days of me working with a 4-year-old buckskin gelding. Even though this horse is four, he is green for his age. He had been ridden on the trail quite a bit but hadn’t been given much specialized training.

I’m in the process of putting this horse in the bridle (curb bit) and you will see some of the techniques I use to get him neck-reining. You will also learn how to set a horse’s head position so it stays good no matter how you handle the reins.

This horse also has trouble picking up the correct lead and I demonstrate how to fix it. I also work on the horse’s spin, back-up and responsiveness.

Absolutely Foolproof Hindquarter Stops

Training On Cattle Totally Clarified

This special IC video is really a good one. I cover working your horse on a cow in a lot of detail. I also discuss some of the differences in training for a cutter, a working cow horse and a team penner. A lot of members have been telling me they are having problems with the cow work. I think this months video will make it crystal clear what you need to do.

The stuff I show you in this video looks deceptively simple, yet it can be hard to actually practice. Most folks try to do too much when working a colt on a cow. Remember, the horse wants to grasp the idea of what you are trying to teach but he can understand only if it’s presented to him in “baby” steps. When asked for too much too soon, the colt becomes anxious, antsy or worried. When he’s in this state of mind, the colt will usually over-react to the cow or not react at all. He may even decide that working the cow is downright unpleasant and try to run off.

An important key to keeping your colt confident and willing to work is to let him stand quiet and relaxed whenever the cow stops. And I don’t mean stand there for 5 seconds. Stand there for a full minute or two. Now, you don’t need to stand there for a long time every time the cow stops but at least 25% of the time.

Also, I do a demo on everybody’s favorite topic… stops. The demo is on how to time the reins to the horse’s stride so you stop him on his hindquarters. On the call-in days quite a few members are telling me they are having problems timing the stop. I think this demo will pave the way to solving your stopping problems.

How to Improve Your Riding & Training

Advancing the Spin

Fixing Head Position

Neck-Reining Circles

Evaluating Cutting Runs

The gelding I'm riding in the first part of this tape, has limited athletic ability. Which means, he doesn't have the talent to be a show horse. However, he can still do a nice slow spin and a correct stop. In this tape, I school the horse to encourage him to do the best work of which he is capable.

The second part of this tape is my...

Critique of Cutting Runs at the Show.
We filmed actual competition at a local cutting show. I critique each run and evaluate each horse and rider. I point out the good points as well as the mistakes of each entry.

30-Day 2-Year-Old Gelding, Dry and On Cattle

Older Mare, Training for Slow Lope, Correct Leads
and Better Head Position.

Conformation Critique

In this month’s video, I school three horses. I also critique each horse's conformation, pointing out their good and bad traits.

The first two are colts with 30-days of riding, a gelding and a stud colt. I work them both dry to improve their rein and I also work them on cattle. While schooling the stud colt, I point out some important differences that apply when training a stallion.

The third horse in the video, is a nine-year-old mare that was brought to me just to get better broke. The main focus of this training session, is to get her loping slower on a lose rein. I also work on her canter departure and her head position.

Progression from snaffle bit to the curb bit.
I get a ton of email from people asking me about the bitting process. In this part of the video, I go through my entire inventory of bits.

Starting with the snaffle, I explain why I use a certain bit and how to know when it's time to move on to the next bit. I also show you several of my "specialty" bits, designed to address specific training problems. You'll see the entire progression from beginning snaffle to finishing curb.

Part 2 of this video covers...

A whole bunch of individual training tips, including…
Handling the reins with a snaffle and curb bit
Riders body posture in the saddle
Choosing the right saddle
Sequence of cues for stopping

Schooling a 2-Year-Old Stallion with
Attitude Problems

Suppling & Body Control

Making a Futurity Horse

Training a 2 year-old stallion.
Here I school a young stallion that has had approximately 4 months of training. The major focus of this tape is dealing with this colts attitude problems. The colt has reached the stage of training where he doesn't want to pay attention to what I'm trying to teach him. He is resisting my hands and legs and is lacking control. Many colts will go through this stage during the training process. It's important you know what to do.

Preparation, planning and training for the futurities.
If you ever plan on taking a colt to the cutting, reining or snaffle bit futurity, you really need to pay attention to what is said in this section of the video. There is a lot more to it than you think.

Explanation of Good Hands

Cutting Horse Training Problems

Schooling a 4 year-old stallion for reining
In this video I school a stud colt that isn't going to make it as a cutting horse. So, we have decided to see if he'll make it as a reiner. I explain what needs to be done to make this transition in the training. I work on the stud's collection, stops, spins and attitude. You'll see this stud make big improvements in his spins and slides.

Explanation of good hands and how to develop them.
Many people have a misconception of what makes good hands.

Fixing Lugging on the Bit

How to Deal with Buckers

Foundation Training on Cattle

Schooling a green-broke gelding that roots the bit.
This colt was started by a rider with soft giving hands. Unfortunately, the rider didn't know how to use his hands "correctly". He taught this colt to lug on the bit and dive into the rider's hands. I work on overcoming this colt's bad response. I also teach this colt to guide better and how to move his hindquarters off my legs.

Explanation of why colts buck and what to do about it.

3-Year-Old Stallion Won't Be A Futurity Horse

Unique Differences in Training a Cutting Horse
and a Reining Horse

Schooling a 3 year-old filly and a stallion on suppling, stops and spins.
This filly won't stop and has some attitude problems. She is also a tail wringer. I work her in a smooth snaffle and try to make some improvement.

The stud colt is 3 years old but is not going to make it as a futurity horse. I explain what the next step should be and what we need to do to get there. I school him on suppleness thru several different maneuvers.

I discuss the differences in training a cutting horse and a reining horse.
This info is extremely important to know.

Tuning a Cutting Horse with an Easy-Stop

Cutting Training for Correctness using a Snaffle

Preparing a Cutting Horse to Be Shown

Tips On Showing a Reining Horse

Schooling horses on cattle using a snaffle bit and an easy-stop.
The first horse I work is a 4 year-old cutting filly that is a little behind in her training. I work her just to reinforce her basic cutting training and improve correctness.

The second horse I work on cattle is an older mare that needs a tune up. I ride her with an easy-stop to get her using her rear-end a little better. She also needs work on cleaning up her turns.

I talk about what needs to be done to prepare a horse to go to a cutting show and what to do when you are actually at the show. I discuss the most common mistakes that non-pros make when showing a cutter.

I also discuss how to get your reining horse prepared to go show and what to do when you are actually showing the horse in a class.

Schooling 2-Year-Olds to Improve Lightness & Responsiveness

Suppleness and Body Control

3-Year-Old Filly on Cattle Schooled for Form & Style

In the first part of this video, I school two 2-year-old geldings that are still fairly green but in need of being lightened up. These colts are typical of most horses. They have reached a point where they are comfortable with being ridden and are ready to be taken to the next level of training.

I work the colts to get them to give to the bit and respond lighter. I also stress suppleness and correct body positioning.

In the second part of this tape, I work a 3 year old filly on cattle. My primary objective is to work on her "form and style" while she's working a cow. I got the filly late, so she too far behind to be ready for the futurities. Also, she is in the middle of her heat cycle and is having a bad day. Even though she isn't in a very good mood, I get her schooled and correct some of her mistakes.

Success Stories!

Dear Larry,

I just started as an Inner Circle member in February but I had lots of your other videos before that. Your videos and comments in the Horsemen Report, have really helped me improve my riding and training skills. I started with a green horse since I couldn’t afford a finished one. With a lot of hard work, your training program and help from my friend Connie, I won “Novice Champion” of 2001 for the Pennsylvania Team Penning Association.

It’s a great feeling when I kick butt with my little $2500 backyard horse that I trained myself. Especially since many of the folks I compete with are riding professionally trained horses they paid a lot of money for.

I keep all your “insider secrets” to myself but I do tell Connie, since I sometimes work goats or a mechanical cow at her place. She really likes your teaching style too.

I’ve enclosed a photo of my horse and me, just so you could see her. I bought her at an auction because I thought she was pretty and I just hoped I could turn her into a cow horse. And as it turned out, with your help, I did. Thank you.

Dear Larry,

Your "Master Horseman Inner Circle" videos and newsletters are about as close as you can get to actually working alongside a real master trainer. I love the fact that nothing is edited out, so when there is a training problem I get to see exactly how to handle it. All of your cues are clearly stated and demonstrated so that reproducing them is not a guessing game.  This has been very eye opening for me.

The program has made a tremendous improvement in the quality of time spent with my horse, without the high cost of a trainer. Thanks.
